Dine

Cuisine from all over the world is available in Israel. There are a few things to consider in Israel. Kosher restaurants which could be anything from Chinese food to Israeli food or international cuisine do not combine meat and dairy products. Restaurants will either serve meat dishes or vegetarian and dairy. Pork is not served in Jewish, kosher or Muslim restaurants and seafood is not sold in kosher establishments. Oriental restaurants in Israel servve Middle Eastern food, not Asian as the name might imply.

Passport Information

Travellers to Israel need a valid passport. Check with the Israel Embassy whether a visa is required. Citizens of most countries, including Canada and the USA are issued a visa on entry.

What to Pack

Remember to bring sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat; walking shoes, and long sleeves and long trousers or a long skirt for entering religious sites. Comfortable clothing attire is preferred due to the amount of walking on the guided tours and hot summer days.

Time Difference

Israel is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and seven hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.

Language

Hebrew is the official language, along with Arabic. English is learned as a second language in schools. French, Spanish, German, Yiddish, Russian, Polish and Hungarian are widely spoken. Road signs appear in Hebrew, Arabic, and English.
